WHO WE ARE
WHAT WE DO
DoubleX works to abolish the system of prostitution and pornography so that women and their bodies are not bought, sold, and trafficked, and so that our societies become more equal and just
HOW WE DO IT
- We raise awareness on the realities of sexual exploitation and mobilize people, organizations, and authorities to speak up and act against such exploitation.
- We advocate for law and policy change in order to prevent sexual exploitation, protect victims, and penalize perpetrators and profiteers.
- We work to stop the purchase of sexual acts which fuels prostitution and pornography.
- We center the stories and experiences of impacted women and survivors so that they are heard, and their voices lead the change.
OUR BELIEFS
We believe that women should enjoy a dignified life and their bodies should never be commodified or purchased on any market.
- We believe that prostitution and pornography are dehumanizing and constitute a form of male violence against women. They are neither sex nor work, and normalizing them serves patriarchy and male entitlement.
- We believe that the prostitution and pornography system is at the intersection of multiple forms of oppression such sexism, racism, colonisation, economic exploitation of poverty, militarisation, and religious extremism.
- We believe that real equality cannot be achieved in any society if men can buy sexual access to women’s bodies.
- We believe that gender is a regressive hierarchy system that perpetuates harmful stereotypical roles attributed to women and men, and reinforces the subordination of women.
OUR STORY
The DoubleX founders are feminists activists who have been fighting for years sexual exploitation and domestic servitude, and supporting impacted women.
Our work and activism made us realize that the experiences of exploitation and abuse that women in prostitution face are not properly recognized by the society. We also realized that the topic is absent in the feminist narratives and policy dialogue in the Arab region and that fighting this exploitative system warrants a dedicated effort and resources.
This is why DoubleX was established with a dedicated mandate to make visible the sexual exploitation of women in Lebanon and in the Arab world, challenge misconceptions and create new narratives, and advance social and legal solutions.
As its name indicates, DoubleX centers XXs and focuses solely on females’ issues.
